Led by the senior vice president for communications, the External Affairs Group is composed of lead communicators and strategists across the institution whose work on behalf of their units contributes to Brown’s positioning among external constituencies and stakeholders. The goal of the group is to allow members to consult with each other regarding plans and initiatives for outreach and engagement to ensure strategic alignment in how Brown is represented beyond campus. The group is an ongoing resource for keeping University stakeholders aligned on priorities and institutional positioning, in addition to identifying opportunities for coordination and collaboration to identify opportunities to strengthen external relationships and impact. Members are appointed by the senior vice president in consultation with the Senior Officers of the University to whom they report.

Convened and led by the senior vice president for communications, the Brown Communicators Group is a campus-wide network of professionals from administrative and academic units across the University for whom some aspect of communications or engagement is a significant part of their role. This includes staff responsible for news, marketing, design, web, social media, events, public relations, and related roles. The group offers professional development and community, serving as a space to connect, stay aligned on University-wide messaging and strategies, learn about University priorities, and share insights, best practices, and industry trends. The quarterly meetings also offer opportunities for networking and peer learning, helping communicators stay informed, inspired, and supported in their work.

The Brown Social Media Managers Group is a network of staff across the University who manage or contribute content to official Brown social media accounts. Organized by OUC, this group connects via Slack and e-list to share strategies, coordinate campaigns, and stay current with best practices, platform updates and University guidelines. Open to all communicators responsible for social media content on behalf of a Brown unit.

The Brown Web Editors Group (BWEG) is an opt-in community for campus web content editors organized by OUC. As a digital-first group, BWEG primarily communicates through email to share resources, tips, and best practices with members. We may also survey the group to identify needs, seek assistance recruiting usability test participants, and use it as a sounding board for new web and digital initiatives. If you manage web content at Brown and haven't joined yet, we encourage you to become part of this University-wide community of editors.

The Community of Practice for Event Planners at Brown educates and informs University event planners on best practices, resources, event policies and related protocols. The community, organized by Event Strategy and Management, will also provide opportunities to explore streamlining event technology and tools across units to realize cost savings, better coordination and efficiencies.
